where xv is one of the many PNG viewers. Note that if you use xv, you need to register the software with the author (see the Licence info). To utilize xv, you'll need version 3.10a or later and Alexander Lehmann's unofficial PNG patch to XV using diff (requires libpng and zlib).
You may quickly get a copy of xv-3.10a.tar.gz, xv-3.10a-png.diff.gz, libpng-0.80.tar.gz, and zlib-0.95.tar.gz for UNIX systems. Note that these copies may not be as recent as the previous references however.
To set up the PNG viewer, enter the following into the HelperApplication or
ExternalViewer dialog box in your Web Browser:

Note that you may need to supply the complete path to the application. Also, some browsers need a '.' preceeding the extensions entry.

There are several Mac based PNG viewers available. graphic converter is one of many PNG viewers.
You may quickly get a copy of graphic-converter-23.hqx for the Macintosh. French and German versions
are also available from the previous site.
Note that this local copy may not be as recent as the previous reference however.
