This is a test
model. If you can not view it, you need to install a viewer:
add the following viewer entry to your mailcap file:
model/iges; showiges %s
There are presently no freely available Unix IGES viewers available although
you can create a script file, as above, to convert IGES into another format
that you can view. VRML is one of the more popular 3D formats and
converters do exist to convert IGES to VRML.
To set up the IGES viewer, enter the following into the HelperApplication or
ExternalViewer dialog box in your Web Browser:
| MIME type / subtype | model/iges |
|---|---|
| extensions | igs iges |
| application | igesw |
where igesw is one of the many IGES viewers.
You can quickly get a 30 day demo copy of ig31w142.zip for Windows 3.1 and igesw150.zip for Win95/NT but these may not be as recent as the previous reference however.
Note that you may need to supply the complete path to the application. Also, some browsers need a '.' preceeding the extensions entry.
Additionally, the following is from Mark Newman:
Our second product, IG2DXF an IGES to DXF translator, is available as free demo software.
You can quickly get a local copy of ig2dxf.zip. Note that this may not be as recent as the previous reference however.
And Actify make a viewer for WinNT/95 that supports IGES
and other formats called
3D View.
There are presently no freely available Mac IGES viewers available.
Information about the model/* MIME type is contained in RFC 2077.
Additional information about IGES is available from the IGES Tools Page.
There is a testing and certification service and a conformance testing service available from NIST; contact Lynne Rosenthal at:
(301) 975-3353
Additional products supporting IGES are available
from
IDA, IGES Data Analysis.
There is a project at NIST to develop (Small Business Innovation Research -- SBIR Office, FY 1997) a freely
available IGES viewer based on the NIST IGES Compatability Test Suite,
http://www.eeel.nist.gov/iges/viewerSpec.html.
The SBIR officer is Norman Taylor, Phone (301) 975-4517 or 3085, FAX (301) 548-0624.
Thanks go to Curtis Parks (parks@eeel.nist.gov)for the IGES pointers and test document.
