Note that if you use xv, you need to register the software with the author (see the Licence info).
You may quickly get a copy of xpaint-2.1.1.tar.Z, xloadimage.4.1.tar.gz, or xv-3.10a.tar.gz for UNIX systems. Note that this copy may not be as recent as the previous reference however.
To set up the GIF viewer, enter the following into the HelperApplication or
ExternalViewer dialog box in your Web Browser:

Note that you may need to supply the complete path to the application.

There are several Mac based gif viewers available. jpeg-view is one of many gif viewers (contrary to the name, it actually views many formats).
You may quickly get a copy of jpegview-33-fat.hqx for the Macintosh.
